Best practice for ex situ care of tropical Magnolia

Hi all,

Can you share experience or provide advise on ex situ growing techniques for Magnolia dodecapetala and Magnolia portoricensis? Any best practices on how to grow them (or similar tropical species) in ex situ (moisture, day/night temperature range, fertilizing, substrate) would be greatly appreciated by partners of the Global Conservation Consortium for Magnolia!
Reply here or to jlinsky@atlantabg.org!

Thanks!

Hi Jean, thanks for your question. I have checked on PlantSearch and there are no records of ex-situ collections for either species. This doesn’t mean they are not being cultivated in gardens. So I will pass your question to the wider Caribbean Network and hopefully somebody might have some more information. Thanks! Patricia

I’ve shared this question with our colleagues in the Caribbean and Central American Botanic Garden Network too and can share any comments. This would be great information to share widely.
Thanks
